On March 18, Kristen attended the premiere of “Pandas” at TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX.
Bell is the chief storyteller in the doc, which details a biologist’s efforts in China to aid in the process of breeding giant pandas, then releasing their cubs into the wild.
‘Pandas not only spotlights the important work being done to protect these beloved and ridiculously cute animals, but it provides us with inspiration and hope and showcases the great things we can achieve when we work together,‘ the actress said in a statement in February.
Bell, who adheres to a vegan-vegetarian lifestyle, has established herself as one of the premiere environmental crusaders in show business.
She’s lent her celebrity in the past to green causes such as the World Wildlife Fund and Recycle Across America.
IMAX was ‘tremendously excited to have the talented and engaging‘ actress on board with the project, the company’s Entertainment CEO Greg Foster said in a statement.
He continued: ‘We can’t wait to share this heartfelt journey that will transport IMAX audiences to the mountains of Sichuan in China and spotlight the incredible steps scientists are taking to protect and reintroduce these magnificent and adorable pandas into the wild.‘
Kristen was appropriately garbed for the occasion in a black dress with large spherical silver buttons lining up the front by Paper London
Pandas is slated for release April 6 at IMAX and IMAX 3D theatres.
In the arena of unexpected IP, the Bad Moms film franchise could soon find itself translated into reality TV.
Fox is in early development stages of a Bad Moms unscripted series. The network is working with feature distributor STX Entertainment, which is producing the project. There aren’t too many details as of yet, but it will take the films’ premise of imperfect parents and shift the focus to real-life moms.
Bad Moms, starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, was a sleeper hit in 2016 and sparked the 2017 sequel Bad Moms Christmas. The pair took in a combined worldwide box-office total of $314 million.
The TV project is being executive produced by Jason Goldberg, STX’s chief creative officer, unscripted and alternative programming, and prolific unscripted producer Brant Pinvidic (My Cat From Hell, Bar Rescue).
The possibilities of tweaking the source material to work for reality are many, with much of them veering more towards docuseries than the kind of unscripted show Fox typically airs. The bulk of the network’s alternative roster, be it the recently renewed singing competition The Four or the ongoing culinary-focused Hell’s Kitchenand MasterChef, are traditional competition series.
Fox got a new reality czar in 2017 with the addition of veteran showrunner Rob Wade as president of alternative and specials. His big order thus far has been The Four.
Kristen Bell visited Jimmy Kimmel Live for an interview on January 16. On the interview, the actress revealed some funny anecdotes about her relationship with hubby Dax Shepard. Dax has melted our hearts numerous times with his relationship advice and candid keys to making their marriage work, but as Kristen elaborately explained on the show, this guy is totally attached to his motorcycle and off-road vehicles.
“My one daughter has a lamby, my other daughter has a blanket, my husband has a 1,000-pound off-road vehicle, and I have my vape pen . . . #edgymom,” Kristen said. But before they were a compromising family of four with their own vices, Dax and Kristen were stubborn, and nothing epitomizes new relationships more than this lovely story about the couple’s first blowout fight.
After she was finished filming the 2010 movie When In Rome alongside Josh Duhamel, Kristen and Dax decided to take a road trip to meet their families in Detroit. But this wasn’t your average road trip with iPads and souvenir shopping at highway rest stops; these two rode Dax’s motorcycle home, and while the first half was filled with yacht rock, which we know is Dax‘s genre of choice, the other half was filled with screaming.
“We were newly in our relationship, and he had chosen the music for the first two states, and when he went into the service station I thought, ‘Well, that’s a wrap for me. I’m up to here with the yacht rock, outlaw country; let’s get some show tunes, right?!’ So I switched the iPod. Well, he was not happy,” Kristen recalled. “Because I didn’t ask, we didn’t discuss it, and it was also like we’re both control freaks, [and it was the] beginning of our relationship.”
The music was only the start of the fight for Dax and Kristen, who explained that the fight spiraled into an argument about helmet laws. “Because Dax Shepard believes that if he’s in a state that does not have a helmet law, he should be ‘observing the local culture’ and not wear his helmet,” she said. “We ended up compromising that if he was on the highway, he had to wear the helmet. But if he was on side streets, he didn’t have to wear the helmet. I’m not joking — he took side streets for like four hours just to make a point.”
For the next few states, their fight massively escalated, culminating in them screaming at each other over the sounds of the motorcycle and completely losing their voices. When they reached Kristen‘s home, having barely survived this horrible fight, they were greeted by her mom, a tower of VHS recordings, and a “medium-length photo shoot.”
Kristen‘s final words of wisdom: “But we continued dating, Jimmy. That’s the moral of the story. We worked through it. It’s about compromise. It’s about understanding the other person’s wants and needs. We weren’t listening to each other back then, but now we listen.”
